Welcome to the new News. The old news was hosted by Yahoo Sitebuilder with Wordpress software. Yahoo does not permit upgrading to newer Wordpress versions. Thus I am junking Yahoo and converting to Google.
The old Catemaco News & Commentary blogs are transferred en masse, leaving out most photos, labels and comments. Some posts were edited and some were deleted.
I have also cleaned out the Yahoo Catemaco Group and transferrred worthwhile posts to the new News

Moving to Catemaco
I thought I was thorougly familiar with Mexico when I decided to move there.
After having lived in Mexico City, Baja California and the old Zihuatanejo and after having visited most of the 32 Mexican states over a 30 year span, I decided to settle in the Yucatan.
Bad idea!
After renting a car and exploring the Yucatan for a month I went home to my Miami hi rise with magnificent views of the the Atlantic Ocean and almost the Gulf of Mexico and studied the maps.
Sure, Merida had excited me for a few days, so did Isla Holbox, Playa del Carmen, Mahajual, and I loved the museum at Chetumal. Campeche almost caught me.
I decided I wanted something aside from the plains of Florida, something with hills or mountains, something green year round and some more personal conditions. Something not within a major city (treehugger at heart), something with some water nearby.
I found Catemaco, on the edge of Laguna Catemaco, at the edge of the Los Tuxtlas Biosphere, and I loved the way the map looked.
So I flew to Mexico City, drove to the Sierra de Los Tuxtlas and promptly busted an oil pan on a dirt road on the side of a hill next to a gurgling creek studded with fresh water shrimp traps.
So I raced back, hopped on the then next available ferry and shipped myself to beautiful downtown Catemaco via the Yucatan.
Let me tell you about paradise....
Or maybe not.

About this Blog
Click to play music to accompany this spiel.
The Catemaco News Blog is an adjunct to the: http://www.tuxtlas.com/ and http://www.catemaco.info/ web sites.
The blog is purely personal and is not intended to entertain tourists with a wonderful Mexican experience. Instead this blog centers on my personal day by day experiences and opinions about primarily Catemaco, Veracruz, Mexico.
Although at times writing negatively, I sincerely enjoy my small piece of paradise, abetted by my partner, a descendant of local Popoluca Indians, her offspring of 5 wonderful doctors, lawyers, and so called "licenciados", plus most of the rest of Los Tuxtlas which seems to be related to her.
I will deny that "I wrote it" about most anything negative about Mexico in general, and I hope that keeps the Mexican thought police happy.
I am European on a Mexican FM3 visa who first arrived in the US in 1959 and Mexico in 1962, graduated from what is now the Universidad de las Americas in 1966, In 1972 I settled in the US and in 1988 I scrounged a US passport.
After many years in Europe, the Far East, Australia, the USA, several areas of Mexico and assorted etceteras, I decided to live in beautiful downtown Catemaco, Los Tuxtlas, Veracruz, Mexico in 2002 to enjoy the view and begin to understand why I lived when so many others died, and to take advantage of my good fortune.
