Catemaco ranching - 3

Sometimes very early in the morning the view from mi rancho in Sontecomapan near Catemaco is a bit foggy, and I think my eyes are getting old.

My gay rooster apparently had a sex change. His harem produced the first batch of eggs. Unfortunately one of his hens escaped and my dogs killed her.

Now I wonder whether to let the fowl run free and cage the dogs.

Catemaco carnitas

When an ejidatario (owner of acreage in a communal ownership village) sells a ranch is he socially obligated to throw a party for his former fellow ejidatarios. The norm is carnitas (slow cooked chunks of meat). And beer! Lots of beer!

Depending on the size ranch, different size animals are sacrificed, ranging from a sheep, to a pig, a young steer, or a cow.

The ranch we bought in Sontecomapan, near Catemaco, is 23 hectares, not large, but also not small, actually the size of 40 cases of beer.

When it becomes our turn, I'm thinking of grilling turkey hot dogs. At least my dogs won´t roll around in bloodstained soil.

Catemaco ranching - 2

Of course I have a river and a few waterfalls on mi rancho in Catemaco, Veracruz, and my dogs regularly inspect them.

This is my hedge trimmer. I rented him used about 4 years ago, and he at present costs me a base of 700 pesos per week. My familia calls him the "maquina". If I had worked aside him in my prime, I would have been fired.

Ranching in Catemaco 1

This is my rancho near Catemaco with views of the Sierra Santa Marta.

These are the bites of "pinolillos" seed ticks, that seasonally attack me on my rancho.
